BURIUS

The working side of the house

Who stocks it: the people behind BURIUS

A small team in Ohio that makes the unglamorous half of a working house.

What we are

BURIUS is a household supply brand. We design and produce the plain equipment a house runs on — condiment squeeze bottles, cake boards, toaster bags, fruit tools, garage door cables, clip-on side shields, pennant banners and a long tail of similar things. We are not a design house and we are not trying to be. The catalog is wide because households are wide.

The office and the sample room are in Dayton, Ohio. The sample room is the part that matters: every model we sell has had a physical sample on a bench here, used the way it will actually be used, before it was ever listed.

How a product gets made

It starts with a complaint, usually ours. A cap that snapped. A board that bowed. A tip too narrow for the sauce it was sold for. We write the complaint down as a specification, then we make the version that would not have caused it.

The sample then has to survive a dull test. A bottle gets filled, emptied and washed fifty times. A drum carries a loaded cake across a room. A cable gets cycled. If the sample fails, the mould changes or the project stops. Roughly a third of what we prototype never gets listed.

What we publish

Every model page on this site carries the real capacity, the real dimensions, the pack count and the current price. Where a product is hand wash only, the page says so. Where it is food safe, the page says that too, and where it is not food safe we do not leave it ambiguous.

We would rather talk somebody out of the wrong size than process the return. That is not a moral position; it is the cheapest way to run a small catalog.

Where to find us

Write to the desk at the address at the foot of this page and you will reach a person, not a queue. The postal address is the sample room — if you send us something that failed, it lands on the bench it was tested on.
